Suleiman Obeid , former captain of the Palestinian national football team and one of his country's greatest players, was killed in an Israeli raid in Gaza while trying to collect humanitarian aid. He was 41 and had officially retired in 2023 , the Palestinian Football Association (PFA) announced in a statement. "Over the course of his long career, Obeid scored more than 100 goals, becoming one of the brightest stars in Palestinian football," the federation emphasized.

Who was Suleiman Obeid?

Nicknamed "the Pelé of Palestine", Obeid won the Gaza Strip Golden Boot for three consecutive seasons, from 2016 to 2018. He also participated in the 2012 Asian Challenge Cup and the 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
